These are installation shots of some of my designs for the etched glass windscreens at the New Mexico Rail Runner Belen station. The Dobbins of Etchmaster, http://www.etchmaster.com/, etched the glass. Belen is a town of about 7200 people thirty miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Belen mayor wanted images refecting the city’s long association with the railroad (Since 1880 Belen has been the home of a major marshalling yard on the east-west Burlington Northern - Santa Fe Railroad. A freight train passes through Belen about every ten minutes.) and some of its historic buildings. I combined freight car wheels with the window arches of the old Belen Hotel, which, I think, coincidentally is owned by Judy Chicago. There are three pairs of etched glass windscreens.

The etched glass panels have been installed at the downtown Albuquerque Rail Runner Express station. There are four panels for this installation and not six as for the eight other stations. For this site I used two sets of wheels, steam locomotive drive wheels and wagon wheels. I used the positive and negative images for each pair. At the time of the photo, the station walls had not been stuccoed nor the handrails fully installed. The blue tape is left from installation of the stainless steel frames for the glass. Compare these photos with my simulation entered Tuesday, June 20, 2006.
